Product news

ESA Biosciences, a Magellan Biosciences company, has announced that it will be exhibiting its latest products for clinical research at Medica 2007 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Visitors to the Magellan Biosciences stand D45-6 in Hall 3 will be able to see ESA's LeadCare® II - an easy to use system that offers a fast, accurate and inexpensive way to perform blood-lead measurement from only two drops of blood at the point-of-care. The new device delivers quantitative blood-lead results, equivalent to those reported in reference laboratories, in just 3 minutes. This means no more waiting days for lab results, or spending precious time trying to contact patients for critical follow-up care.

ESA will exhibit the first Vitamin D HPLC Method Assay Kit suitable for use as a reference test and for large-scale clinical studies. Some recent studies suggest that vitamin D3 may contribute more significantly to vitamin D health status than previously realised. Increasingly, doctors are requesting results for the individual forms of vitamin D. Osteoporosis, Heart disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Depression, Stroke, Chronic pain, Osteoarthritis and Cancer are just some of the serious conditions linked to vitamin D deficiency. ESA's new vitamin D HPLC assay is the first complete kit (FDA-clearance pending) designed to deliver results equivalent to the method considered the 'gold standard' for vitamin D testing - providing low-level measurement of 25-hydroxyvitamin D2, 25-hydroxyvitamin D3, and their total-so physicians can simultaneously assess nutritional status and monitor therapy.

Today, many medical research laboratories don't have the time or resources to put together their own system or develop and validate a "home-brew" method for a critical clinical-diagnostic application and take it through the FDA clearance process. Based on many years experience ESA Biosciences are able to deliver turn-key systems with all you need to achieve maximum performance: integrated components including instruments, columns, reagents, and, when appropriate, sample preparation - along with expert chemistry, application, and service support.

ESA HPLC oncology systems, including the only FDA cleared system for plasma metanephrine, have been adopted by major clinical laboratories throughout the world to rule out potentially fatal chromaffin cell tumours - usually found in the adrenal glands - with far more sensitivity than traditional assays.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.
