Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT), will host an instructive talk on accelerating synthetic biology at the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) General Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana on Sunday May 31, 2015 at 11am CDT. The Product Theatre talk at booth 272, entitled “Versatile New DNA Tools to Accelerate Your Research” will focus on the issues faced by researchers during gene construction or modification and provide them with fresh ideas and techniques to advance their work.

Presented by Dr Michel Cannieux, Director of Product Commercialization at IDT, the talk will demonstrate how IDT can assist scientists through the use of rapidly-synthesized, custom-made gBlocks® Gene Fragments. With over 15 years of experience in the life science industry, including the use of RNAi, synthetic biology and CRISPR, Dr Cannieux will explore the variety of applications of these double-stranded, sequence-verified DNA blocks with case studies that highlight their versatility. Simple to design and order, fragments of 125bp to 2kb can ship in just a few days, making gene cloning and gene synthesis quicker and more cost-effective than ever before.

Attendees will benefit from expert guidance on cloning and gene modification methods that come at a fraction of the cost of other common techniques and services. The talk aims to enable attendees to immediately take advantage of gBlocks Gene Fragments, to accelerate their work while saving them valuable hands-on time and maximizing the use of their research budget.

MicrobiologyMicrobiology is the study of microorganisms including protists, prokaryotes, fungi, and, often, viruses. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments. A variety of vectors optimized for gene cloning and expression in a range of host organisms are available, alongside competent cells for genetic replication. Here, you can explore a range of molecular tools, high-quality genomic and cDNA libraries, premade clones, transformation and transfection reagents and mutagenesis or gene expression detection assays and expression arrays.
