Sample security is vital to ensuring the integrity of your results. When dealing with small volumes this has been especially difficult to achieve, as it is normally impracticable to provide secure storage for individual small samples. A unique new product from Camlab overcomes this problem.

The Secure Sample Keeper (SSK) is a 1.5ml microcentrifuge tube with a tamper evident snap shut lid. Opening the lid once it has been closed releases an integral tamper evident ring that makes it immediately obvious that the seal has been broken. The tubes are made from high clarity virgin polypropylene, exhibiting excellent chemical resistance, and are compatible with a wide range of sample types. The unique design does not compromise performance. These tubes can withstand centrifugation to 15,000g and temperatures from -85°C to 121°C. The tubes have moulded graduations at 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 ml. Used SSK tubes can be re-used as conventional microcentrifuge tubes.

A similar principle is used in the Camlab 5 and 10ml Disposable Prep Tubes, ideal for sample collection, transport and storage. Here, unique tamper-evident sealing rings in the snap cap prevent accidental opening and loss of sample. The cap remains leak-proof once the seal has been broken. These tubes have moulded graduations at 1ml intervals and a frosted writing area for ease of labelling.

Centrifuges come in three sizes: microcentrifuges, benchtop and floor-standing centrifuges, depending on the volume and number of samples that require separation. When choosing a centrifuge, consider its maximum separation power indicated by its relative centrifugal force (RCF) value. Low force centrifuges reach a maximum RCF of 8,000 g, high-force centrifuges can reach maximum RCF values of 80,000 g. For extremely high forces, consider ultracentrifuges (up to 800,000 g). Refrigerated and vacuum centrifuges also known as concentrators are available for more specialized applications. A range of volumes are available for centrifuge tubes and microfuge tubes, depending on sample sizes.
