Industry news

ESCMID has evolved remarkably over the last few years, and in order to adapt to this new reality, it has decided to strengthen its main brand, ESCMID, and bring all of the various sub-brands more closely together under one large ESCMID umbrella. This includes changing the name of the annual congress to 'ESCMID Global', more closely linking it to ESCMID and highlighting its outreach and perspective beyond Europe.

The upcoming ESCMID Global, formerly ECCMID, in Barcelona (April 27–30) will be the 34th congress and the first one with the new name and look.

In parallel, ESCMID is modernizing its visual identity. The first manifestation of these efforts is the renewed website escmid.org, which was released on April 10, 2024.

The rebrand follows the results of a 2023 in-depth analysis of ESCMID's brand and communication efforts that showed the brand did not sufficiently reflect the increasingly global role of ESCMID and that many were not aware of ESCMID’s numerous activities regarding research, education and guidelines, or of the connection between ECCMID and ESCMID.

Clinical MicrobiologyMicrobiology is the study of microorganisms including protists, prokaryotes, fungi, and, often, viruses. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments.
