The new refrigerated 18-space and 24-space microcentrifuges from Eppendorf are right in step with Eppendorf’s Silence | Speed | Simplicity™ philosophy for centrifugation. With their small footprint, extremely silent operation and FastTemp function for quick pre-cooling, the centrifuges 5418 R and 5424 R set new standards for refrigerated microcentrifuges.

BIOTECHNICA also saw the launch of the Eppendorf Award 2011. Researchers up to 35 years of age and working in Europe are eligible to apply for the Eppendorf Award for Young European Investigators 2011.

A further market introduction is the first breakable PCR plate. It can be easily separated into smaller fragments to accommodate experiments of a smaller format. This saves both material and money. The “twin.tec 96 PCR Plates unskirted, separable“ may be broken into four 24-well segments. The empty remainder of the plate is thus available for future experiments. The plates are compatible with nearly all common cyclers.

The compact Centrifuge 5418 has a capacity for 18 x 1,5/2,0 ml tubes and it can achieve a maximum rcf of 16,873 x g/14,000 rpm. This Micro Centrifuge is exclusively equipped with an aerosol tight rotor, which can be operated without the rotor lid for customer convenience but without any significant increase in noise level. The Centrifuge 5418 is perfect for customers that demand a high quality centrifuge for processing a reduced amount of samples. Protein LoBind Tubes

With this recently developed EPPENDORF TUBE type, for the first time Eppendorf offers problem-free handling with the tiniest volumes / concentrations of a variety of proteins. Whereas previously, preliminary handling of tubes by saturation with BSA or siliconization was required in order to guarantee the recovery of the proteins in the plastic tube, the new Protein LoBind Tube from Eppendorf offers real advantages. Recovery rates of more than 99% are now achievable (see Image 1). Enzyme-activities, for example, are not reduced by this tube, and denaturing effects caused by interaction with the surface are almost completely excluded. All of these properties are possible without the undesired side-effects of a surface coating.
