HORIBA Scientific, global leader in elemental analysis systems and solutions, just announced a new EMIA-Expert Carbon/Sulfur analyzer.

The EMIA-Expert joins the EMIA-Pro, EMGA-920 O/N, EMGA-921 H family of elemental analyzers.

The new EMIA-Expert Carbon/Sulfur Analyzer is an advanced configuration model to the EMIA-Pro, which is the basic model. Both offer Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) measurement capabilities, and are equipped with a Unique CO Detector. They can be used for a wide variety of Inorganic materials such as steel, cokes, catalyst, non-ferrous alloy like aluminum and lithium-ion battery materials.

In addition to all the features of the EMIA-Pro, new functionality on the EMIA-Expert includes:

  • High performance purifier unit for carrier gas for high accuracy measurement of ultra-low carbon concentrations
  • High performance heating unit filter which prevents absorption of SO2 by moisture created by samples during analysis

The patent-pending cleaning mechanism on both the EMIA-Pro and EMIA-Expert clears dust in the furnace, enabling up to 200 measurements without maintenance cleaning. This increased efficiency leads means one measurement cycle can be completed in about 70 seconds, or 50 samples per hour.

“Both the EMIA-Pro and EMIA-Expert offer easy to use advanced operation software,” said Philippe Hunault, General Manager of the Elemental Analysis group in HORIBA Scientific. “Our new interface was designed with multiple function tabs along the top, and operation menus along the right side for easy visualization. And, we’ve enhanced functionality to include three new navigations: Analysis, Troubleshooting and Maintenance.”

The ‘Analysis Navi’ software is programmed to set measurement conditions automatically when the operator selects a sample by name. The ‘Maintenance NAVI’ software alerts users when maintenance is required, and provides a list of maintenance menus, photos and procedures. The ‘Troubleshooting Navi’ pinpoints trouble spots, notifies the user and recommends recovery processes.
