Product news

EMD Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany, invites you to visit booth #2841 at INTERPHEX 2014 in New York City to learn about the company's portfolio of solutions for the entire biopharmaceutical process. A complete range of upstream and downstream technologies helps the biopharmaceutical industry make, purify, formulate and assure the quality and safety of drug production. Single and multi-use solutions, including customizable hardware, allow manufacturers to develop processes to meet their specific requirements. The end result is improved efficiency, productivity and accelerated time to market.

Products on display for the first time at INTERPHEX include:

Cellvento® Cell Culture Media
EMD Millipore offers a comprehensive chemicals portfolio, including high-quality, chemically defined cell culture media manufactured under cGMP conditions. The Cellvento® CHO media platform provides non-animal origin media formulations for batch and fed-batch mode operations, delivering robust cell growth and consistent high performance.

Clarisolve® Depth Filters
Clarisolve® depth filters are the first primary clarification offering with a gradient density structure specifically designed to the particle size distributions of pretreated feed streams. The filters allow biopharmaceutical manufacturers to move directly from primary clarification to downstream sterile filtration without the need for centrifugation or a secondary clarification stage, reducing overall footprint and improving process economics. EMD Millipore has also developed a cationic pDADMAC (poly diallyldimenthyl ammonium chloride) flocculation reagent which, in combination with Clarisolve® depth filters, provides an effective solution for harvesting high cell density cultures and can be easily incorporated into current clarification platforms.

Pellicon® 3 Cassettes with Ultracel®Membrane with New D Screen for High Viscosity Applications
These advanced, high-performance cassettes are ideal for today's higher-titer therapeutic antibodies, as well as demanding filtration processes that require higher operating pressures, temperatures, concentrations and caustic cleaning regimes. With the new high viscosity screen, biopharmaceutical producers can reach higher concentration for Mabs, rec IgG and recombinant protein.

DRYPOUR® Packaging Systems
The DRYPOUR® packaging system minimizes the caking of hygroscopic salts used in pharmaceutical manufacturing during transport and storage. The system, which uses desiccant bags integrated into a polyethylene liner, helps improve operational efficiency by reducing the need to manually break up heavily caked raw materials.

Clarisolve® Depth Filters

Merck

The Clarisolve® depth filter is a novel clarification tool with a gradient density structure specifically designed to the particle size distributions of pretreated feed streams. Offering improved volumetric capacity and reduced turbidity over current available depth filters, the clarification step of pre-treated feeds can be processed in a significantly reduced footprint without the need for a secondary stage of clarification. The Clarisolve® depth filter is the first primary clarification offering with a gradient density structure specifically designed to the particle size distributions of pretreated feed streams. With improved volumetric capacity and reduced turbidity over currently available depth filters, the clarification step of pretreated feeds can be processed in a significantly reduced footprint without the need for a secondary stage of clarification.Available in Pod devices, the Clarisolve® depth filter provides the fastest and most efficient way to clarify high-density streams and easily transfer processes from upstream to downstream without the use of centrifugation.Clarisolve® Depth Filters Benefits: Reduced flushing volume (up to 93%). Provides fastest and most efficient way to clarify high-density pre-treated feed streams. Enables processing of pretreated feeds in a significantly reduced footprint with reduced flushing requirements. Eliminates the need for centrifugation and enables implementation of a fully single-use process train. Fully scalable from lab to pilot to process scale. Ability to go directly from primary clarification to downstream sterile filtration.

DRYPOUR™ Packaging System

Merck

The DRYPOUR™ packaging system for high-quality hygroscopic salts When it comes to products and workflow, you accept nothing but the highest quality in your production – so the same should apply to packaging. Our DRYPOUR™ packaging system is an outstanding new solution for our high-quality hygroscopic salts. This state-of-the-art design packaging system minimizes caking, thus significantly reducing the time needed for material preparation. It consists of a PE drum with our new tamper-evident seal, a polyethylene liner with integrated desiccant bags and a breathable interior Tyvek® liner. This triple protection delivers two invaluable results: dramatically reduced caking, and no contamination risk from the desiccant. As the desiccant bags are firmly integrated into the polyethylene liner, they do not come into contact with the product during use or transport. So with DRYPOUR™ packaging, you can now start working straight away.DRYPOUR™ Packaging System Benefits: Minimizes caking of hygroscopic salts Improves operational efficiency by reducing material preparation time and increasing operator safety Offers triple protection: against moisture inside and outside, and against contamination Meets Ph Eur and USP requirements

Packaging is closely linked to Shipping and the preparing of goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use. Within the pharmaceutical industry packaging and shipping are used for transport, storage and logistics between Contract Research Organizations (CROs), Manufacturing and Clinical Trial companies. Packaging is also critical in the final production of a pharmaceutical product before market. Scale-upScale-Up is generally defined as the process of transferring the results of the discovery phases of the drug discovery process, obtained on a laboratory scale, to the pilot plant and finally to production scale. Scale-Up uses reactors and pump systems as well as reagents, standards and buffers. Often Scale-Up is provided as a service by Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs). Bioprocessing / FermentationBioprocessing is the use of biological materials to perform commercial, scientific or medical research processes. Biological materials used include cells, enzymes and organisms. Usually bioprocessing requires a batch or continuous bioreactor such as a fermentor or cell culture system. The advantages of using a reactor include high productivity, easy configuration, adjustable values and automation.PharmaceuticalsPharmaceuticals are medicinal drugs used in healthcare to diagnose, prevent, cure and treat illnesses. Pharmaceuticals that are excreted after use appear in wastewater and can have detrimental effects on the environment.
