Edan Diagnostics, Inc., a wholly own subsidiary of Edan Instruments, Inc., a world leader in the development and manufacture of bio-electronic devices and laboratory analyzers for medical diagnostics, and LGC, a global life science tools leader, has announced the sale of LGC’s ClariLight molecular diagnostics point of care (POC) platform to Edan.

The acquisition includes a partnership with LGC for the development of molecular diagnostic assays designed for Clarilight and the supply of enzymes and oligonucleotides required for manufacturing. The instrument and test cartridges will be developed, manufactured and marketed by Edan, and sold through its expanding global distribution network. The company anticipates the launch of its initial products within 2-3 years.

Brian Kim, President, and Managing Director, LGC Biosearch Technologies, remarked, “LGC is pleased to see the ClariLight platform will be commercialized by Edan. In addition, we are delighted to form an ongoing partnership to help Edan bring to market the molecular diagnostic assays that will run on ClariLight. I believe our ongoing partnership with Edan, a leading medical device company, will benefit both companies.”

Zhang Hao, Edan CEO, remarked, “We believe that this acquisition will jump-start our entry into the rapidly growing, molecular diagnostic market. There is a growing need for this type of testing throughout the world. The opportunity to continue to work with LGC provides additional confidence that we will be able to launch our first products in this area as planned.”

Point-of-CarePoint-of-Care Testing (POCT) or Near Patient Testing (NPT) products are available for urine, blood and other clinical chemistry analyses. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.OligonucleotidesOligonucleotides are small nucleic acid polymers, usually less than 20 bases in length. Oligonucleotides can be made via enzymatic cleavage or more commonly by chemical synthesis with polymerases. Their use includes FISH, southern blots, microarrays and as primers in PCR. High fidelity synthesis kits and detection systems are available for easy production and detection, respectively.Point of Care SolutionsPoint of care solutions provide medical diagnostics and treatments at or near the site of patient care. These technologies offer rapid results, helping healthcare providers make quick decisions. From glucose monitors to molecular diagnostics, point of care solutions are transforming healthcare delivery by reducing wait times and improving patient outcomes. Explore the best point of care products in our peer-reviewed product directory, compare options, check reviews, and get pricing directly from manufacturers.Assay DevelopmentThe process of proving an assay to be sensitive with respect to the target is known as assay development. The assay should be able to characterize novel compounds and measure the potency of these compounds against a validated biological target.Molecular DiagnosticsMolecular diagnostics use an individual’s genetic code and gene expression to diagnose and monitor diseases. The technique is used increasingly in the field of infectious diseases and oncology, as well as areas such as coagulation, HLA typing and pharmacogenomics. Molecular diagnostics plays a pivotal role in personalized medicine.Cell Based AssaysCell-based assays use living cells to measure biological responses to various treatments or stimuli. They are essential for drug discovery, toxicology testing, and understanding cellular mechanisms. These assays are used to assess cell viability, proliferation, gene expression, and other cellular activities.
