Industry news

Earlier detection of disease can revolutionize patient outcomes for a variety of therapeutic areas, significantly reducing mortality rates. The Early Detection Summit, taking place on March 22–23, 2023, will be the first of its kind to approach early detection from a cross-disease focus, and will provide the latest case studies and innovative strategies enabling accelerating early detection – from cancer to diabetes and arthritis.

On-stage presentations, panels and Q&As will cover:

  • Key challenges facing the early detection of disease from diagnostic test pitfalls to enhancing clinical trial success
  • Innovative ways to address and overcome current challenges
  • Collaboration across diseases, as well as, across academia and industry to work together in establishing new technologies
  • Advancement of clinical trials for more effective research through established partnerships across the industry.
  • The requirements of healthcare systems to prepare for the implementation of early detection
  • Methods to ensure early detection becomes the new routine reality.

Register online and download the agenda here to discover more about the sessions taking place. The list of speakers will include:

  • Darren Hodgson, Executive Director, AstraZeneca
  • Talisia Quallo, Research programme manager – Early Detection, Cancer Research UK
  • Michael Zaiac, Head of Medical Affairs oncology, Novartis
  • Allan Hackshaw, Professor of epidemiology, UCL
  • Eric Klein, MD, Chairman, Cleveland Clinic

AntibodiesAntibodies are used in techniques such as confocal and fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISPOT, immunohistochemistry, western blotting and immunopreciptation. Select specific antigen reactivity, high specific affinity, low non-specific binding, monoclonal or polyclonal, primary or secondary antibodies and associated conjugates such as an enzyme or dye for visualization.Data AnalysisData analysis hardware and software is available to make data processing straight-forward yet powerful. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Clinical TrialsClinical Trials, an essential part of drug discovery process, assess the safety and effectiveness of a new medication or device in the pharmaceutical industry. Clinical Trials are a phased process (Phase 0, Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV) which begins after initial preclinical testing.Drug DeliveryDrug Delivery refers to dosage form, route of administration, formulations, technologies, and systems for transporting a pharmaceutical compound in the body as needed to safely achieve its desired therapeutic effect. Drug delivery is often approached via the biopharmaceutical or small molecule drug's formulation, but it may also involve medical devices or drug-device combination products. Considerations include instrumentation, software and services. RegulatoryPharmaceutical regulations impact on all areas of drug development, manufacture and control and supply. Services are provided from the early stages of drug development and clinical trials through to dossier submission, approval and marketing. Regulatory also includes submission of analytical studies from the pharmaceutical product and safety. DiabetesDiabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels, either due to insufficient insulin production or resistance to its effects. Ongoing diabetes innovation focuses on developing better diagnostic tools, treatments, and preventive measures. PharmaceuticalsPharmaceuticals are medicinal drugs used in healthcare to diagnose, prevent, cure and treat illnesses. Pharmaceuticals that are excreted after use appear in wastewater and can have detrimental effects on the environment.Infectious DiseasesInfectious diseases are caused by pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Effective detection, prevention, and treatment are crucial to control outbreaks and improve public health. Diagnostic tools, vaccines, and antimicrobial treatments are essential components of managing these diseases. Research into emerging pathogens and resistance patterns continues to evolve.
