1. APPLICATION NOTE: Controlled Cultivation of Stem Cells – Factors to Consider When Thinking of Scale-Up

The production of high quality cells in sufficient amounts remains one of the challenges of stem cell research, with traditional cultivation systems providing simple but inefficient means of production. This white paper describes the process and difficulties that can be encountered during the scale-up of stem cells for therapy or research. It also describes how controlled bioreactors, widely established in traditional cell culture applications, could be the key to establish and optimize reproducible cultivation processes. 2. VIDEO: Prevent Contamination in the Cell Culture Lab

Discover how to improve your cell culture workflow to prevent contamination during everyday cell culture work, with innovative tips and tricks from Eppendorf. Watch the video to learn how Eppendorf cell culture consumables and incubators are optimized to reduce contamination. Watch video.

3. PRODUCT: Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ New Pluripotent Stem Cell Media Eliminates Need for Daily Feeding

Culturing pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) is a technical and time-consuming process, as many stem cell media components, such as fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2), lose activity at physiologically relevant temperatures. Therefore, stem cell cultures must be fed daily to preserve pluripotency and tri-lineage differentiation potential. However, a new PSC medium from Thermo Fisher Scientific has been designed to allow two-day breaks from culture feeding without having to make changes to current workflows or compromise culture quality, offering researchers unprecedented schedule flexibility. 4. APPLICATION NOTE: A Novel Solid-State ChIP Platform in High Throughput Format – Chromatrap® 96 HT

This application note demonstrates the potential of Porvair Sciences’ Chromatrap® 96 HT in the field of epigenetics. Sensitive enrichment of gene loci following immunoprecipitation, with antibodies directed against transcription factors, alongside indicative histone marks, was shown to be highly selective, demonstrating excellent reproducibility. 5. PRODUCT: Robust Chemically Defined Human iPS Cell Culture Medium

Takara Clontech's Cellartis® DEF-CS™ Xeno-Free Culture Medium for preclinical use provides a robust solution for scale-up and mass production of human pluripotent stem cells. It's free from human- and animal-derived components and cultures cells with a high proliferation rate. Learn more.

6. APPLICATION NOTE: Neurosphere Formation, Migration and Differentiation of Human Neural Stem Cells

In this study, spheroid microplates were used to control the neurosphere size of an NSC culture over the course of 96 hours, maintaining uniformity and multipotency, as assessed through Nestin and Sox2 marker expression. Analysis of spheroid size and quantification of migration was carried out using the BioTek Cytation™ 5 Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader. Download method.

7. PRODUCT: ChIP, ChIP-seq, and Methyl Antibodies for Stem Cell Studies

Analysis of spheroid size and quantification of migration was carried out using the BioTek Cytation™ 5 Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader. Learn more.

8. VIDEO: Advancing Cytotoxicity Workflows using EnSight Multimode Plate Reader with Imaging

The EnSight Multimode Plate Reader from PerkinElmer allows high resolution imaging and data acquisition in a fraction of the time of traditional imaging platforms. The EnSight is ideal for costly and limited access samples such as stem cells, enabling collection of unbiased information from cell based assays, such as endogenously expressed receptors in primary or stem cells. In this video, Dr. Phillip Gribbon, Fraunhofer IME, explains how he uses the EnSight to reduce his workflow time, allowing him to measure confluency levels of cells quickly and easily. Watch video.

9. APPLICATION NOTE: Large-Scale Production of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells in BioBLU® 5c Single-Use Vessels

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a promising area of research within stem cell-based regenerative medicine, as they have great potential to revolutionize human disease treatments. This study demonstrates the success of large, clinical-scale cultures of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSCs) in an industrial single-use vessel with a working volume of 3.75 liters. The vessel offers a precision controlled environment for the ideal growth of stem cells under simulated physiological conditions. Download method.
