Corning Incorporated will showcase its latest solutions for cancer research, including tools for 3D cell culture, in exhibit 330 at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 2016 annual meeting, April 16-20 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Featured innovations and laboratory solutions include:

  • Corning® Matrigel® matrix
  • Corning spheroid microplates
  • Transwell® permeable supports
  • Corning CoolCell®, CoolBox™ and CoolRack® systems

“Recent advancements in 3D cell culture models have accelerated translational research in cancer cell biology, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine,” said Richard Eglen, Ph.D., vice president and general manager, Corning Life Sciences. “We believe this is a game changer in the field and a significant step forward in the fight against cancer.”

Additionally, SelectScience will announce the winner of its Scientists’ Choice Award for Best New Life Sciences Product of the Year at the AACR annual meeting. Corning® HepatoCells have been nominated for this accolade. Corning HepatoCells are a robust, consistent, and convenient alternative to primary human hepatocytes.

“We are continuously working on solutions to help our customers decipher the intricacies of cancer,” said Keith R. Olson, Ph.D., director, business operations, Corning Life Sciences. “We are committed to delivering quality products, innovations, and scientific support that stand out in our industry and help researchers achieve their goals.”

Corning Matrigel Matrix is the original, trusted extracellular matrix (ECM). Used for 2D and 3D cell culture, the matrix enables improved attachment and differentiation of both normal and transformed anchorage-dependent cell types. Additionally, the matrix better mimics in vivo environments for 2D and 3D cell culture applications.

Corning’s spheroid microplates are ideal for generating and analyzing 3D spheroids in the same microplate. Featuring Corning’s Ultra-Low Attachment surface, the microplates enable uniform and reproducible spheroid formation which is well suited for cancer research centers studying tumor formation and cancer invasion.

Transwell permeable supports are an essential tool to study cancer progression. These cell culture inserts create in vivo-like conditions critical to study angiogenesis, tumor invasion, migration, and other complex cell interactions and functions that promote tumor growth.

Corning’s innovative storage, heating, and cooling solutions include the Corning CoolCell alcohol-free cryogenic freezing container, Corning CoolRack thermo-conductive modules, and the Corning CoolBox cooling systems. These reusable, flexible platforms provide consistent temperature control and help reduce variability.

Corning Life Sciences continues to bring new and innovative laboratory technologies to researchers worldwide and help customers succeed by providing novel, high-quality products and services in cell culture, bioprocessing, drug discovery and development, genomics, and microbiology.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. The number of wells microplates contain can range from 6 to 3243 wells, with the 96-well format being the most commonly used. Microplates can come tailored for a range of applications including cell culture, PCR, filtration, storage, non-binding surface, protein crystallization, as well as pre-coated, deep well and normal Standard microplates. Additionally, options for microplate colors include clear , black, white or black with clear bottom and white with clear bottom for absorbance microplate reader applications.
