Product news

BioTek is excited to introduce the new Cytation™ 5 Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader. This second generation imaging reader includes added functionality to both the automated digital microscopy and conventional multi-mode microplate detection modes, enhancing phenotypic cellular information and well-based quantitative data.

Cytation 5’s microscopy module provides cellular visualization up to 60x magnification in fluorescence, brightfield, H&E and phase contrast modes. Equipped with BioTek’s patented Hybrid Technology™, the multi-mode module includes variable bandwidth quad monochromators, high sensitivity filter-based detection and laser-based Alpha detection for unmatched versatility and performance. Cytation 5 also includes temperature control to 65 °C, CO2/O2 control, shaking and Gen5™ software, specifically designed to make sample detection, image capture and analysis quick and effortless.

According to Gary Barush, BioTek’s Director of Marketing & Sales, “Cytation 5’s multi-mode capabilities are a culmination of years of experience and proven technologies. Combined with the imaging modules, Cytation 5 is the most extraordinary multi-mode reader available today”.

Microplate Readers / DetectorsMicroplate readers are used to automate the detection and analysis of labeled or label-free components in microplates during assays or live-cell monitoring. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput. Lab equipment for light microscopy includes confocal microscopes, fluorescence microscopes, zoom and stereo microscopes. Microscope slides and imaging reagents are available for visualizing samples, as well as various microscope stages and incubators for large or temperature-sensitive samples. The application of many fluorochromes has made it possible to identify cells and sub-microscopic cellular components with a high degree of specificity. Using multiple fluorescence labels, different probes can simultaneously identify several target molecules.Cell ImagingCell imaging can be achieved using a number of techniques including confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and light sheet microscopy.
