Product news

BioTek Instruments, Inc., a global leader in microplate instrumentation technology, will highlight its latest innovations in microplate solutions as a Gold Level Sponsor at LabAutomation 2007, to be held January 28-30, 2007 in Palm Springs, California.

In addition to showcasing the latest innovations in automated microplate systems, the company will present the technical poster, “The Synergy™ 2, A Novel Approach to Microplate Multi-Detection for HTS.” This multi-mode microplate reader, with DLReady and HTRF certification, was specifically designed to provide research laboratories with performances normally found on high-end HTS instrumentation along with flexibility and efficient cost-control in a modular architecture. The automated system of Synergy™ 2, Gen5™ Data Analysis Software, and Bio-Stack™ Twister® II Microplate Handler will be featured at Booth #453.

The company will also present the technical poster, “NanoQuot™, A Cost Effective Flexible Nanoliter Dispenser for High Throughput Screening” at the conference. The dispenser, capable of running stand-alone or computer controlled as part of a robotics system, provides accurate and precise dispensing of volumes ranging from 100 nanoliters to 40 microliters in a variety of microplate formats including 1536-well microplates. Detailed demonstrations of NanoQuot combined with the Bio-Stack™ Microplate Stacker will be available at Booth #453. In addition to the technical poster, NanoQuot will be featured at the “Late Night With LRIG: Rapid-Fire Innovation Session”, to be held January 29, 2007 at the Mojave Room of the Wyndham Palm Springs Hotel from 7-10pm. This new forum, moderated by The Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA) and the Laboratory Robotics Interest Group (LRIG), provides a highly interactive and efficient portal for researchers to learn about and discuss the latest innovations in laboratory automation and technology products and services.

Gen5™ Microplate Data Analysis Software, included with all high-end detection systems from BioTek Instruments, provides optimal reader control, data analysis and reporting in a variety of microplate applications.

Bio-Stack™ automation modules may be interfaced to various microplate technologies from BioTek Instruments for increased speed, flexibility and ease of operation. Components are modular and easily reconfigured when experimental protocols change.

Lab-on-a-ChipLab-on-a-chip (LOC) technology uses microfluidic chips, such as microarrays, to perform biochemical assays on a small scale. Benefits of lab-on-a-chip include the small volume of sample required as well as the speed of analysis. In selecting lab-on-a-chip devices consider the assay, cost, reliability, sensitivity and signal to noise ratio.High-Throughput ScreeningHigh-throughput screening (HTS) is an automated drug discovery technique for identification of active compounds against a compound library. Use HTS readers and integrated assay preparation / analysis workstations to screen your compounds. Identify active compounds against various HTS libraries, including membranes, proteins and peptides and HTS cell lines. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Microplate Readers / DetectorsMicroplate readers are used to automate the detection and analysis of labeled or label-free components in microplates during assays or live-cell monitoring. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput.
