BioCision, a leader in sample handling, announced today a new collaboration with ATCC, the world’s leading provider of authenticated biological material. ATCC debuted the first product in this collaboration, the alcohol-free CoolCell® LX cell cryopreservation container, at the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) 2013 meeting in April. BioCision and ATCC are exploring additional custom-design ATCC branded products from the BioCision’s CoolProducts™ platform, which may be used and distributed by ATCC.

BioCision’s CoolProduct devices are specially designed and engineered to achieve temperature uniformity when cooling, freezing, thawing, and handling biomedical samples, ensuring reproducible temperature profiles and instantly standardizing temperature-sensitive lab procedures. All ATCC cell-freezing protocols are being updated to recommend the use of CoolCell LX containers to maintain the optimal controlled freezing rate when cryopreserving a variety of cells and cell lines for archival storage.

“As a global provider of biomaterials for use in life science research, ATCC is a leader in promoting improved procedures to ensure proper sample handling and standardization, which is increasingly recognized as an essential element in research and drug development,” said Rolf Ehrhardt, MD, PhD, BioCision CEO. “We are very pleased that ATCC has identified our technology and CoolProducts platform as the standard to achieve this goal.”

ATCC supplies characterized, authenticated cells, bacteria, fungi, viruses, and reagents, along with services for characterization, authentication, mycoplasma detection, and repository management to the world-wide life science community. ATCC has been associated with high quality throughout its long tenure, and in 2007 it was the first biological resource center to become accredited by the American National Standards Institute, as a standards development organization. Standardization of lab practices is paramount to ATCC’s work and mission.

"ATCC is the clear global leader in the provision of standards and reference materials,” said Kevin Grady, product line business manager at ATCC. “We have been consistently impressed with the levels of standardization that are achieved through the BioCision CoolProducts platform, and we look forward to providing our customers with a new industry standard for cryopreservation. BioCision products are elegant in their simplicity and ease of use and offer researchers standardized methods with great reproducibility and little variability in performance.”
