Product news

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, today announced the introduction of Bio-Plex® Manager 5.0, its latest Bio-Plex® suspension array system data management software.

The Bio-Plex suspension array system is a multiplex analysis system that permits the simultaneous analysis of up to 100 different biomolecules, such as proteins, peptides, or nucleic acids, in a single microplate well. Unlike other competitor suspension array systems, Bio-Plex integrates instrumentation, assay kits, software, calibration and validation tools into a complete system.

“The new Bio-Plex Manager 5.0 data management software will further improve drug research productivity as it enables faster extraction of knowledge and increased confidence in assay results,” said Bio-Plex marketing manager Emily C. Dale. “The software supports all Luminex xMAP™ bead assays, including assays that use magnetic beads.”

The new Bio-Plex data management software has four key improvements over the previous software version.

A new graphing capability to quickly compare sample data and results between samples and across analytes, allowing users to better understand the data using a customizable graph.

An automated maintenance feature that allows researchers to set up and automatically run (unattended) “pre” or “post” run custom maintenance and shut-down operations. This feature permits users to use their time more productively as the system can be programmed to run all maintenance protocols using the Bio-Plex system reservoir.

Data normalization, which uses internal controls such as housekeeping genes or external/exogenous controls, which allow users to establish a comparison parameter and increase their confidence in their results .

A new multiple analyte table layout for viewing sample data across analytes within a single view. This feature allows users to scroll through the entire results data set and hide columns as needed, providing an excellent way to visually compare results.

MicroplatesMicroplates are multi-well plates used to increase the throughput of biological investigations. The number of wells microplates contain can range from 6 to 3243 wells, with the 96-well format being the most commonly used. Microplates can come tailored for a range of applications including cell culture, PCR, filtration, storage, non-binding surface, protein crystallization, as well as pre-coated, deep well and normal Standard microplates. Additionally, options for microplate colors include clear , black, white or black with clear bottom and white with clear bottom for absorbance microplate reader applications. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Data AnalysisData analysis hardware and software is available to make data processing straight-forward yet powerful. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms.
