Product news

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, announced today the release of new Bio-Plex® Pro™ Human Disease assays that allow multiplex measurement of human diabetes (14 targets), angiogenesis (9 targets)and acute phase response (9 targets) biomarkers to help researchers understand the underlying causes of disease progression and help develop earlier diagnosis, better prevention measures and more effective therapies.

Bio-Plex Pro assays are carried out on magnetic beads and reproducibly detect human disease biomarkers over the concentration ranges reported for normal and disease conditions. Multiple biomarkers in samples such as serum, plasma and culture supernatants are measured simultaneously on the Bio-Plex Suspension Array system where sophisticated analysis software produces a complete view of their expression profiles.

Key features and benefits include: multiplexing for maximum information from each sample, new targets and combinations, results in under 4 hours for greater productivity, low volume requirements for analysis of hard to replace samples and the option of magnetic washing protocols for less hands-on time.

Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.BiomarkersBiomarkers are biological markers which can be measured and evaluated to indicate a biological state. The use of biomarkers in research and diagnosis can indicate a normal or disease state or drug response of cells / tissues. Biomarkers include genetic markers, cell surface markers such as antigens, antibodies or receptors and secreted molecules such as cytokines. An assay system is required for identification of biomarkers. :Clinical TrialsClinical Trials, an essential part of drug discovery process, assess the safety and effectiveness of a new medication or device in the pharmaceutical industry. Clinical Trials are a phased process (Phase 0, Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV) which begins after initial preclinical testing.
