Berthold Technologies presents the second generation of its Multimode Microplate Reader Mithras, the Mithras² LB943 with monochromator and filter technology.

The Mithras²LB943 works with the flowing reading technologies:

  • UV/VIS Absorbance
  • Fluorescence and FRET
  • Fluorescence Polarisation
  • Time-Resolved Fluorescence (TRF and TR-FRET)
  • Luminescence
  • BRET and BRET²
  • AlphaScreen® and AlphaLISA®

Already implemented in the TriStar² the patent-pending optical concept ONE-4-ALL is employed for sensitive luminescence, fluorescence and absorbance measurements – with performances as in dedicated instruments – in the Mithras² for filter-based reading. Additionally the instrument is equipped with two double monochromators with high blocking efficiency and high f-number (increased transmission) for filter-less measurements of absorbance and fluorescence. For utmost sensitivity in luminescence a third specially selected and extremely noise-reduced detector is engaged in the HiSens position which is used for Alpha and BRET readings, too.

In addition, the multimode reader TriStar² capable of these reading technologies include;

  • absorbance
  • fluorescence
  • FRET
  • luminescence
  • BRET and BRET²

TriStar2 with multiple measurement technologies employs the new patent pending optical concept ALL-4-ONE, for the first time enabling luminescence, fluorescence and absorbance measurements with highest respective sensitivity as known from dedicated instruments. In comparison to its predecessor the optics has been further improved and an improvement in detection limits in fluorescence has been achieved.

The third featured product is the NightSHADE in vivo plant imager. For applications such as monitoring gene expression and circadian rhythm with reporter genes e.g. GFP or luciferase, observation of plant growth, examination of stress tolerance, measuring of delayed fluorescence, bio-photon imaging and drug screening the NightSHADE offers unique features for plant research.

  • Deep cooled slow scan CCD camera with high sensitivity
  • LED-based plant illumination with daylight simulation
  • Top and side-view imaging
  • x-y table and rotating table for 360° viewing
  • Condensation removal
  • Imaging of up to 9 plates at once

The instruments will be showcased at booth 417 in hall B1.

Fluorescence SpectroscopyFluorometers and spectrofluorometers (also called fluorescence spectrometers) are used to measure the intensity and wavelength of fluorescent light emitted from a sample after excitation by illumination. Spectrofluorometers utilize monochromators to select the desired wavelengths, whereas filter fluorometers employ a set of filters. Spectrofluorometers for measuring steady-state fluorescence and lifetime fluorescence (or time-resolved fluorescence) are available, as well as fluorescence microscopes and microplate readers.
