Product news

Beckman Coulter has announced the selection of the Motoman (a Yaskawa company) industrial robot arm for integration with the company’s automated liquid handling solutions, providing drug discovery/screening and sample preparation customers with an industrialized option for ultra-high throughput.

The Motoman robot will join Beckman Coulter’s own ORCA® and Robotic Transport (BRT) offerings to give customers a choice of automation scalability.

As the newest entry in Beckman Coulter’s successful third-party integration programme, the Motoman robot, rail setup and software controls will be optimized for use with Biomek® FX or NX automated liquid handling systems and integrated solutions. These integrated solutions include scheduling software, liquid handlers and a variety of peripherals, such as readers and incubators, and provide high levels of walkaway automation.

“Motoman is the number one robot company in the world, with an extensive track record in many industries,” commented Margie Rogers, Integrated Solutions Marketing Manager for Beckman Coulter. “We chose to include this robot in our third-party integration programme because of its proven robustness in high workload applications.”

Founded in 1989, Motoman has more than 120,000 robot installations to date. Motoman’s product line includes more than 175 robot models, with payloads from 3 kg (6.6 lbs.) to 500 kg (1,102 lbs.) and boasts more than 40 fully integrated, standard pre-engineered "World" solutions that include robots, process equipment, and safety equipment.
