Artel, a firm believer in maintaining highest laboratory standards, is proud to have announced that as of July 13th, it has earned certification to the new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 standard on quality management systems. This verifies that Artel’s quality management system complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 for design, manufacture, testing and calibration of analytical instrumentation, test kits and software - for systems used in life science application, training consulting and on-site services for life science laboratories. Before this, Artel maintained certification to ISO 9001 requirements for 12 years.

“Our goal is to be a world leader in accurate, precise and easy-to-use systems for verification and calibration of automated liquid handlers and pipettes,” says Cary Ouellette, QA Manager, Artel. “Achieving this certification is just one part of our efforts to continually raise the bar for internal quality management processes, providing our customers with the assurance that our systems meet their quality and regulatory requirements and needs.”

While ISO 9001 helps organizations highlight consistently high levels of quality, the 2015 revisions align the ISO 9001 standard with current best practices in quality management, combining a process-based and risk-based approach. The new standard is based on a wide range of quality management principles, including customer focus, management participation, a process-oriented approach to implementation, and ongoing improvement. The changes feature a Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle implemented across all levels of an organization.

Recognized worldwide across 163 national standards bodies, ISO is an independent, non-governmental international standard-setting organization. Made up of representatives of various national standards organizations, ISO develops and promotes global commercial and industrial standards.
