Applied Microarrays, Inc., a Tempe-based contract microarray manufacturer and Titertek-Berthold, a Pforzheim, Germany-based biotechnology instrumentation company, have partnered to include the Crocodile miniWorkstation as part of a complete system solution for multiplexed assays.

The platform includes custom protein and DNA arrays, reagents and protocols, a fluorescent scanner for slides or plates (VidiaTM) and now the Crocodile assay processor.

Crocodile provides a highly competitive option for customers seeking quantitative data achieved by multiplexed fluorescent assays. Depending on the customers’ changing throughput needs, Crocodile offers the flexibility to use both multi-well slide or plate formats, and all the key features of large 96-well plate liquid handlers….but at a fraction of the cost. Standardized protocols and easy to use reagents enable customers that are new to microarrays to transition quickly from ELISAs or PCR assays.

“Customers have asked for easy-to-use, reproducible assays that can be used in their discovery research or as a basis for developing a diagnostic test” remarked Alastair Malcolm, CEO of Applied Microarrays. “Through our work with Titertek-Berthold, we bring the combined expertise of assay development, optimized protein and DNA microarrays, and user-friendly, low-cost instrumentation to the growing market of multiplexed assay users.”

“There is a huge market demand for targeted microarrays and instrumentation that supports the practical throughput for many labs. The Crocodile miniWorkstation platform serves that market and with AMI’s custom arrays, provides a high-performance low-cost alternative to bead arrays for multiplex -immunoassays” said Dr. Anselm Berthold, CEO of Titertek-Berthold. “We look forward to our ongoing work with AMI to produce additional assays.”

ELISAEnzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), also known as enzyme immunoassays (EIA), are used for the detection and quantification of proteins, peptides and antibodies in a sample. ELISA often comes in kit format, with pre-selected antibody pairs to detect specific proteins or biomarkers of diseases such as diabetes and obesity, or cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Detection is made possible with chemiluminescent, fluorescent or colorimetric substrates and detection instruments such as microplate / ELISA readers. Other kits available include: Enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assays for the quantification of protein-producing cells and chemiluminescent immunoassays (CLIA) kits.
