Applied Cytometry, a leader in flow cytometry data analysis, will attend the Human Pluripotent Stem Cells symposium, the first ever major stem cell event to be held in Ireland.

The three day event, held at the Croke Park Conference Centre in Dublin from 22nd – 24th April, will discuss both basic and therapeutic applications of human pluripotent stem cells and their differentiated derivatives and brings together an impressive list of international speakers in this focused and rapidly expanding area of medical science.

The event covers a number of key topics around pluripotent stem cells, to include epigenetic and reprogramming mechanisms underpinning derivation, maintenance and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells. The emergence of human pluripotent stem cells as a platform for generating large quantities of disease-specific material will also be discussed, focusing specifically on two applications: disease modeling and drug screening.

Flow cytometry represents a powerful tool in stem cell research allowing simultaneous sorting of numerous parameters including multiple markers, generating greater amounts of data than ever before and so demanding increasingly capable analysis software. Applied Cytometry recently launched its latest version of its VenturiOne® v3 flow cytometry data analysis software, specifically designed to handle vast amounts of data generated in for example stem cell research. The software can analyse up to 400 files concurrently in less than ten seconds and in addition to rapid batch analysis, VenturiOne v3 also produces significantly enhanced reports, generated from within the software itself. Furthermore, its inherent flexibility and simplicity of set-up means VenturiOne manages the vast majority of a laboratory’s routine workload.

Commenting on this event, Dr Tracey Long, Marketing Manager at Applied Cytometry, said: “We are delighted to be attending the Human Pluripotent Stem Cells symposium this year. As flow cytometers continue to push boundaries in terms of their capabilities, software that can analyse vast amounts of data is essential. Stem cell research is one of the areas truly able to benefit from these increased technological advances and VenturiOne® v3 revolutionises the analysis”.

Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Flow Cytometry / Cell CountingFlow cytometers are used to count, sort and examine multiple characteristics of cells. Other cell analysis equipment includes image cytometers, cell counters, fluorescence-activated cell sorters (FACS), magnetic-activated cell sorters (MACS), and a range of flow cytometry assay kits. Flow cytometers can reveal information on cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression, as well as identify cell populations and intracellular or cell-surface molecules. Additionally, some flow cytometers, known as FACS, have an additional sorting function after analysis. Cell counters and image cytometers count live and dead cell populations and can also conduct cell proliferation assays.
