Agilent Technologies Inc. have announced solutions for the fast-growing cannabis and hemp testing market. The new Agilent eMethods product, as well as the Cannabis and Hemp Potency Kit and the Cannabis Pesticide and Mycotoxin Kit, offer testing labs simple and effective solutions to help them get up and running quickly.

Developing reliable testing protocols for complex matrices such as cannabis and hemp is arduous and time-consuming, especially for newer laboratories. Agilent eMethods delivers downloadable ready-to-run instrumental methods that establish reliable, efficient protocols with an end-to-end workflow that addresses the different testing needs, and offers guidance on sample preparation, consumables, and supplies. eMethods also provides a complete analytical system configuration for automation, sample introduction, separation, and detection, along with data processing and reporting capabilities.

“The fledgling market of cannabis and hemp testing has an urgent need for solutions that help ensure efficiency as well as regulatory compliance,” said Monty Benefiel, Agilent Vice President, and General Manager of the Mass Spectrometry Division. “Our new tool—Agilent eMethods—along with the Cannabis and Hemp Potency Kit and Cannabis Pesticide and Mycotoxin Kit gives labs a head start in establishing testing procedures, increasing productivity and profitability, and greatly reducing risk.”

The Cannabis and Hemp Potency Kit and the Cannabis Pesticide and Mycotoxin Kit assist labs by offering fast setup and simplification of the analysis of the complex matrices involved with cannabis and hemp testing. These cannabis consumables kits include all consumables required, as well as step-by-step instructions, enabling a complete and comprehensive workflow for potency or pesticide/mycotoxin analysis. From sample preparation through to testing, these kits also help labs navigate different regulations and stay up-to-date and compliant.

“For customers entering the growing cannabis testing market, these innovative kits offer a complete solution with meticulously selected consumables and supplies that ensure not only streamlined operation but a competitive advantage,” said Angelica Riemann, Agilent Vice President, and General Manager of the Chemistries and Supplies Division. “These kits are unique, unlike any other products available in the marketplace today,” Riemann added.

Agilent products and solutions are intended to be used for cannabis quality control and safety testing in laboratories where such use is permitted under state/country law.

LC-MSLC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) systems and equipment are used for separation and quantitative analysis of complex mixtures, combining liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. It provides detailed information about the structure, composition, and properties of compounds and is widely used across fields such as environmental monitoring, materials science, drug discovery and development, food and beverage testing, and wider chemical research. Key MS techniques include tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LS-MS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS). Choosing from these wide range of techniques and technologies can be a daunting task, so keep up to date with scientific applications, performance expectations, and customer reviews here all in one place. Environmental Monitoring and TestingEnvironmental monitoring and testing uses handheld portable analyzers, kits, spectrometers or chromatography systems for air, water, soil, food and other sample testing. Useful features of analyzers such as BOD and COD include portability, easy calibration, automation and sensitivity.  Environmental test kits for pH, water, moisture, etc, should be accurate, sensitive, reliable, fast and easy to use.GC-MS GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) instruments and equipment are used to separate, quantify and identify mixtures of small and volatile compounds, such as polycyclic aromatics, fatty acids and alcohols. Often used in drug detection, forensic investigation and environmental analysis for pesticides and contaminants, GC-MS is a powerful addition to your lab’s analytical capabilities. GC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzers can give greater sensitivity and resolution to your analysis. They are classed as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and can be harmful to humans. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) currently regulates the use of pesticides in the USA. MycotoxinsToxic chemicals such as Aflatoxin and Alkaloids that are produced by fungi are known as mycotoxins. In humid conditions, fungi can proliferate and colonize on crops to levels that can be damaging to human health. Heavy MetalsCannabinoidsCannabinoids are compounds found in cannabis that have therapeutic effects, such as pain relief, anti-inflammatory properties, and potential neuroprotective benefits. Research into cannabinoids is growing, particularly in the fields of pain management, neurological diseases, and cancer treatments.
