Product news

Leading European specialists in peptide and organic synthesis technologies, Activotec (Cambridge, UK), has reported on strong demand for their Activo-P11 Peptide Synthesizer, an easy to use instrument for synthesis of very high quality peptides.

Chris Littlewood, Chief Executive of Activotec, commented "Since its launch in 2007 - market reaction to the Activo-P11 has been extremely positive, installations in peptide laboratories worldwide have exceeded even our most optimistic expectations". He added "We are the only European company with international service and support teams that are exclusively focused on peptide synthesis instrumentation and services. This enables Activotec to be uniquely positioned to provide customers with informed technical assistance enabling them to get the most from their peptide synthesizer".

Drawing upon decades of experience in high quality peptide synthesis and automation processes - Activotec has included many features in the Activo-P11 that benefit users. Designed by chemists for chemists, the fully automated Activo-P11 is very easy to use. Intuitive peptide wizard software prompts users enabling quick definition of protocols. Just enter the peptide sequence, fill in the quantity required, define the resin to use and then press run. Cycle times are as low as 30 minutes per coupling and even long peptides can be synthesized with true walk away automation. Disposable reactors and amino acid containers aid easy installation, removal and maintenance. Combining compatibility with a wide range of commercially available resins and reagents with the ability to perform a wide range of Fmoc and t-Boc chemistries the versatile Activo-P11 is able to synthesise peptides in the 0.1 - 2.0 mmol. scale.

Combinatorial ChemistryCombinatorial chemistry, also known as combichem, is a technique used in drug discovery to create libraries of structurally related compounds. A library is generated by synthesis with a chemical reactor system or by computer-based modeling of compound combinations. When undertaking combinatorial chemistry consider reagents, buffers, resins and standards.ProteomicsProteomics is the systemic bioinformatics study of proteins and amino acids, including their structure, size, function and identification. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Robotic InstrumentsRobotic instruments can be used for high-throughput automation of many lab processes. Such processes use instruments for assays like cell based assays and ELISA, for sample preparation like shakers, centrifuges and incubators, and for analysis such as sequencing and western blot analyzers. Useful features of robotic instruments include speed, reproducibility, barcode readers, software and automation.
